Yesterday was a very breezy cool day with winds from the north up to 20-25 kts at times.  We operated in “Captains Cove” all day and the seas were only 1-3 ft with very little ships motion.  It was a bright, sunny but very cool day…..sweaters and jackets please….

The weather will take a complete turn around today.  Winds are down to about 10 kts now and will soon switch around to the south at 5-10 kts.  The entire week is forecast at south and southwest winds 5-10 kts.  The seas (waves) will be 1-2 feet.

Pick any day this week to sail with us. The weather will be great!!

Nautical weather terms:  “Veering” is when the wind changes direction and moves around the compass in a clockwise directions….say fro North to East.
“Backing” is when the wind changes direction and moves around the compass in a counter clockwise direction….say from North to West.

This was very important to Mariners in the pre-satellite days as this indicated what the change in weather would be in the near future.  A backing wind  (very generally) meant clearing weather and a passage of the front…and a veering wind meant the opposite….
