InSaturday’ cruises were were a good summer ride. We had light winds in the morning with waves at 1-2 feet. The afternoon we had some onshore winds up to about 10-15 kts. The waves were about 2 feet. This had little affect on the ride with a slight motion for 3-4 min during the turns.
The night cruise was a good ride with winds less than 10kts.
Today (Sunday) will be a beautiful day for cruising with us. The winds will be light this morning with waves at about 1 foot. We will see some afternoon on shore winds of 10-15 kts. The waves will be about 2ft. We will have a great ride all day.
Ship Handling terms: Transverse Thrust: I have been describing the way a propeller works to propel a ship through the water. A propeller is designed to push a ship in a forward motion. The problem is, what if you have to go astern or stop the vessel?? This brings in an entire new set of “cause and effects”….the first is transverse thrust. This is an effect that causes the vessels stern to move directly to the right or left as soon as you start turning the propeller in reverse……why does this happen….??
Come sail with us….
