More on the Doldrums: This is an area near the Equator to about 5 degrees latitude north and south. There is always low air pressure here due to the fact that this is the an area on the earth that receives the most direct heating from the sun. Hot air rises and thus creates a very low air pressure….Wind is caused by a difference in pressure in the atmosphere and the wind that occurs is Mother Nature’s way of trying to equalize that pressure….Thus in this area there are long periods with no wind since there are long periods of consistent low pressure…..wow….you got all that??? May be a pop quiz ya know……
Up next…..why early sailors ended up in this area…..and often perished……
Come sail with us! Enjoy the Doldrum weather!
